Icom MA500TR AIS transponder

The innovative Icom product, which is a Class B type, (for voluntarily equipped vessels), is modestly priced, but manufactured to the legendary Icom standard of quality and reliability. It is designed to twin with the professional series VHF radios such as the IC-M504.
It is being used most successfully on port harbour vessels as well as on a number of other professional applications.
The standard kit includes a dedicated GPS sensor ("antenna"), so can serve as a back-up navigator.
Every few minutes the MA-500TR transmits data to other AIS equipped vessels, including your boat's name, radio call sign, position, speed, and course.
It also receives from other vessels including all the above, and if from a Class A vessel, additionally such details as its country of registration, type, cargo, dimensions and destination. These are displayed on several screen pages.
A simple plotter screen shows the relative positions of other vessels, and warns of any which could cause a collision with your boat.
It also has an output which can display vessel icons on any AIS compatible GPS chart plotter.
